April 4, 1959 - July 14, 2021 Douglas Allin – of Kitchener, formerly of Atwood, was welcomed home by his Lord and Saviour on Wednesday July 14, 2021 at the age of 62. Doug was employed with the Region of Waterloo as a Grand River Transit Operator for the past 18 years. He was a handyman that could fix anything and took great pride in looking after his weed free lawn. He was skilled at woodworking having refurbished 10 park/garden benches in 2020 and worked with live edge maple to make a “Welcome” sign, tables and benches. Beloved husband of Sheila (McDowell) Allin whom he married in 1982. Loving father of Craig and Eliana of Bonshaw PEI and Laura Beth and David Crawford of Princeton. Special grandpa of Ezra and Esmeralda. Dear son of Jeanne and the late Murray Allin. Brother of Larry and Beth, Glenn and Deb. Fondly remembered by nieces, nephews, Uncle Alan, Aunt Marie and cousins. Visitation will be held at Country Hills Evangelical Missionary Church, 1280 Ottawa Street South, Kitchener on Sunday July 18, 2021 from 2-4 p.m. Masks will be required and social distancing will be monitored. March 17, 1958 - June 28, 2021 Judy Gabel of Listowel, passed away unexpectedly at Listowel Memorial Hospital on Monday June 28, 2021 at the age of 63. Judy will be remembered by family and friends for her sense of humour and love for her dog. Dear sister of Jack (Diane) Gabel, Joanne (Wayne) Whitney and Jeff (Mandy) Gabel. Special aunt of Matt (Allie), Scott (Holly), Kelly (Scott), Joel, Dustin (Karley), Carlie (Tyler), Abbie (Tyler) and Alexis. Predeceased by her parents Charlie and Joyce (Broome) Gabel and her nephew Jay. In keeping with Judy’s wishes, cremation has taken place. May 1, 1922 - Sunday June 27, 2021 Harold Johnston of Guelph, formerly of Scarborough, passed away peacefully at St. Joseph’s Health Centre, Guelph on Sunday June 27, 2021 in his 100th year. Harold was born in Elma Township, a son of the late William and Nelly (Symes) Johnston. He was a hockey convener for many years in the town of Markham. Harold enjoyed golfing, fishing and after retirement, travelling with his wife Viola. He cherished the time spent with family, especially his grandchildren. Beloved husband of the late Viola (Spencer) Johnston who predeceased him in 2019. Survived by his sons Robert (Janet), Brian (Marilyn), Jim; and daughter-in-law Rose Johnston. Special grandpa of Beverly, Patricia, Jennifer, Richard, Ryan, Sarah, Erin, Emily, Michelle, Christopher and great-grandpa of Ethan, Peyton, Madelaine and Jacob. Remembered fondly by Debbee Johnston and Rhonda Love. Predeceased by his son Richard and sister Olive and her husband William Shearer. In keeping with Harold’s wishes, cremation has taken place. A family graveside service will be held in Elma Centre Cemetery, Atwood on Saturday July 24, 2021 at 1:00 p.m.. September 27, 1931 - June 27, 2021 James (Jim) Scarlett – of Atwood, passed away peacefully surrounded by his wife and girls, at Huronlea Home for the Aged, Brussels on Sunday June 27, 2021 at the age of 89. Jim was a retired Commissioned Agent for Shell Canada and lineman for Ontario Hydro. He was a former member of the Atwood Lions Club holding many positions during his membership. Jim received the Medal of Bravery from Governor General Roland Michener for his attempt to save the life of a fellow hydro lineman who was hit by a high voltage power line. Together, Jim and Mary Jo enjoyed golfing, biking, skating but above all Jim cherished his daughters, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Beloved husband of Mary Jo (Treitz) Scarlett whom he would have celebrated 65 years of marriage with on November 3rd. Loving father of Linda (Jamie) Stewart and Jayne (Milt) Corley. Special poppa of Jamie (Kyla) Broughton and their children Aiden and Leah; Laurie (Wayne) Hunter and their son Jake; Chad (Kelly) Werth and their children Avalon, Lauren and Nixon; Kyle (Courtney) Werth and their children Melina and Kolby. Survived by his brother Carson Scarlett. Fondly remembered by many nieces and nephews, step-grandchildren Melissa, Ashley, Jessica, Hillary and step great-grandchildren Casper and Evance. Predeceased by his parents Tom and Gertie (Kells) Scarlett, brothers Ken (Shirley), Howard (Gerry), sisters Gwen (Fred) Copland, Marjorie (Bill) Near, Isobel (Chris) Grotenhuis and sister-in-law Peggy Scarlett. Marjorie was a member of Atwood Presbyterian Church and enjoyed knitting and crocheting. Beloved wife of Fred Scholl whom she shared 60 years of marriage with. Fondly remembered by her sisters-in-law Maxine Scholl and Gertie Long and by many nieces, nephews and cousins. Predeceased by her parents Frank and Julia (Hollinger) Carson, brothers-in-law Jack Scholl, Erwin Fleischauer, Bruce Long and sister-in-law Eileen Fleischauer. March 22, 1938 - May 28, 2021 Family. Friends. Faith. Food. These were the cornerstones of the rich and meaningful 83 years of Mona’s life. She left her earthly home on May 28, 2021, leaving a hole in the hearts of everyone who knew her. She will be most deeply missed by Albert, her husband and best friend of nearly 60 years. Together they raised a family and built two successful businesses based on the values of hard work, integrity and compassion. Her incredible strength and caring will forever be remembered by her daughter Deb and her husband Tim Hudak, and their daughters Miller and Maitland; her son James and his children Andrew, Zachary, Ben and Meredith, as well as their mother Sharon. She was deeply loved by her many nieces and nephews, cousins, brothers- and sisters-in law and friends. She held a special place in her heart for Don and Nancy Hutton. Mona will now be reunited with her parents Olive and Albert Clarke, and her brother Bert. Mona was a teacher for 38 years. Her most rewarding years were as a special needs teacher. She developed wonderful friendships with many of her students as they became adults, encouraging and nurturing their independence. She was an active member of Knox Presbyterian Church in Listowel, serving as a youth group leader, Sunday school teacher, and member of several women’s organizations. She was also a volunteer for many years with Community Living, Meals on Wheels and the Ontario PC Party. Her generosity was endless. But Mona’s most important moments and greatest satisfaction came from family and friends around the dinner table. All who visited were met with an abundance of food, especially her baking, warmth and laughter. Nothing made her happier than when she could bake and eat with her beloved grandchildren. And if she could sit down and do a craft or sew with them after, even better! April 11, 1937 - May 17, 2021 Adrian (Curly) Konings – passed away peacefully at Fordwich Village Nursing Home on Monday May 17, 2021 at the age of 84. Adrian farmed for many years and then worked in the construction trade for A.M.Shantz. In his retirement, he drove truck for BTE Assembly Transport. Curly will be remembered for his great sense of humour, his loving and compassionate nature and willingness to go the extra mile. He always left a heartwarming life lasting impression on those that he encountered. Curly truly enjoyed spending time with family and friends. His love and devotion for his wife and daughter was endless. His pride and joy are his grandchildren, Derek and Hailie. He was there to support and cheer them on at sporting events. He carried on his wisdom and knowledge with them and was always a great listener. Curly's family has always been his greatest legacy. Beloved husband and best friend of Elma (McNeilly) Konings whom he married in June 1959. Loving father of Jo-Ann and her husband Dean Fischer. Opa will be fondly remembered by his grandchildren Derek Fischer and Hailie Fischer and her friend Wilber Morales. April 15, 1936 - May 10, 2021 Joyce Cameron – passed away peacefully at Listowel Memorial Hospital on Monday May 10, 2021. She currently resided at Caressant Care Retirement Home in Listowel after 38 years of living in Atwood. She was born 85 years ago in Mitchell, Ontario to the late John and Rae Paris. Joyce was a member of Knox Presbyterian Church, Cranbrook. She enjoyed knitting, word puzzles and cheering on the Toronto BlueJays. She was a loving and devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and loved her visits and phone chats with family and friends. Beloved wife of the late Alex Cameron whom she married in 1956 and enjoyed 52 wonderful years together. Loving mother of Lynn Hunt of Cambridge, Sandra Coghlin (Dave Slade) of Waterloo, Barbara Annett of Kitchener and Roger Cameron (Dona Debus) of Milverton. Cherished Grandma to Cameron and Jody Hunt, Cheryl Hunt (Steven Britt), Jessica and Tyler Deitner, Jamie Coghlin, Candice and Clayton Johns, Eddie Annett, Jill Annett, Jeff and Mandy Cameron, Chris and Heather Cameron and Natasha Cameron. Special Great-Grandma to Korben, Cole and Mason Hunt, Alex and Lydia Deitner, Charlotte Johns, Sierra and Bryden Cameron, and Riley and Raelyn Cameron. February 7, 1938 - May 9, 2021 Kenneth Hoshel of Route 1 Atwood, passed away unexpectedly at Listowel Memorial Hospital on Sunday May 9, 2021 at the age of 83. Ken was a member of Atwood United Church and the former Donegal United Church. He was a 1961 graduate of the Ontario Agricultural College receiving a BSc. Chemistry degree. Ken started his career at a drug company where he met his future wife Marjorie. In 1974 they moved to Elma Township and purchased two farms with Ken’s brother Don and his wife Carolyn. Ken had a keen interest in antique farm machinery and enjoyed attending farm equipment shows. Beloved husband of Marjorie (Smith) Hoshel whom he married in 1965. Loving father of Steven Hoshel, Andy Hoshel, Cathy Hoshel and special grandfather of Adam. Remembered by brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Carolyn Hoshel, Helen Smith, Gwen Pottage, John (Irene) Smith, Barbara (Vince) Dawson, nieces, nephews and cousins. Predeceased by his parents George and Lillian (Dibb) Hoshel, his brother Don and his sister Joyce. A private family visitation and service will be held at Brenneman Funeral Home, Atwood with Rev. July 31, 1945 - May 6, 2021 Robert Kamrath – of Listowel, passed away after a courageous battle with cancer at Listowel Memorial Hospital on Thursday May 6, 2021 at the age of 75. Robert was a retired millwright working at Campbell Soup Co. for 37 years. He was a member of the Listowel NCO Club and enjoyed biking and hiking. Beloved husband of Oneta (Goldie) Kamrath whom he married in 1981. Father of Brian (deceased), Bradley and Barrie and grandfather of Mia. Brother of Wilma Dustow, Shirley (Wayne) Gouin, Bruce (Debbie) and brother-in-law of Eileen Kamrath and Joyce Kamrath. Fondly remembered by Lynn Ambedian, Marty (Jean) Ambedian, Leslie Ambedian (Peter Kotanen) and their families and many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his parents Norman and Emma (Hohnstein) Kamrath, brothers David, Oscar, Howard Kamrath, brother-in-law Everett Dustow, sister-in-law Betty Kamrath and step-daughter Kendal Ambedian. David was a faithful member of Bethel Conservative Mennonite Church, Millbank. Beloved husband of the late Florence (Erb) Gascho who predeceased him on March 13, 2020. Loving father of Carolyn (John) Bender of Lucan, Linda (Leroy) Stutzman of New Liskeard, Charlotte (Tim) Zehr of Millbank and David J. Gascho of Clandeboye. Cherished grandfather of 22 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
