  • Amos Lichty

May 21, 1932 - August 22, 2025 Amos Lichty, age 93, went home to be with Jesus on August 22, 2025. As quiet and unassuming as he lived his life, he also slipped peacefully away. Amos, along with his wife and life-long companion Dorothy, who he married on June 10, 1954, recently celebrated 71 years of marriage. She predeceased him by 1 month and 3 days and we are glad they are reunited and enjoying Heaven together. Dad to Wayne (deceased May 16, 1977), Fern (JR) Yoder and Marcie (Robert) Kuepfer. He has left us a legacy of a quiet, gentle man whose life was transformed by Jesus. He made choices midway through his life that changed the trajectory of the future in a positive way. Amos was born in Uniontown, Ohio to Samuel Z. and Mary Lichty on May 21, 1932. They moved to Canada when he was a young boy. He is remembered by brothers Sam Lichty (Mary Ann), Norman Lichty (Clara), and sister Ruth Brown (Ken). Predeceased by siblings Nancy, Jacob, Daniel, Anna, Mary, Katherine, Rebecca, Emmanuel. Also remembered by sister in law Emma Lichty, brother in law Ian Woollett, brother in law Mahlon Gerber (Anna Mae) and sister in law Darlene Gerber. Amos spent a lot of years driving truck and operating heavy equipment, specifically bulldozers. His eyes lit up at the sight of a yellow piece of equipment especially if it had a CAT engine. In his spare time he loved making music – playing guitar, banjo, mandolin and harmonica. He had a deep voice and loved to sing. If music was playing in the background you would often hear him joining in and harmonizing. He was an avid fan of the Toronto Blue Jays and would watch as many games as he could. He was powered by coffee and chocolate – specifically chocolate pie, chocolate cake, chocolate bars and chocolate rosebuds. A family gathering was never meant to happen without something chocolate for dessert. He was overheard at a reunion, after searching the dessert table and finding out that there was nothing chocolate, mumbling that out of all the people who came surely someone could have brought something chocolate. He was even known to enjoy a piece of pie (or half a pie) in the middle of the night. He somehow managed to enjoy all of these treats without ever putting on a pound. Known as Gramps to his grandchildren: Erica & Mike Pillow, Crystal Kuepfer, Vanessa & Eric Marvin, Brent & Sarah Kuepfer, Jesse & Katie Yoder, Jenna Kuepfer, Judson &; Katie Yoder Being together with family was a highlight for Amos. Seeing grandchildren and great grandchildren was one of his greatest delights. Not a big conversationalist you could often find him in the background taking in the action and listening to what was being discussed. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, August 26, 2025 at Brenneman Funeral Home, 141 John St, Atwood, ON from 2-4pm and 6-8pm. Donations can be made to Gospel Echoes Team – Canada. To honour Amos’s wishes there will be a private committal service. A memorial service will be held for immediate family and will be by invitation.

  • Dorothy Lichty

November 9, 1934 - July 19, 2025 Dorothy S Lichty, age 90, went home to be with Jesus on Saturday, July 19, 2025. Dorothy, along with her husband and life-long companion Amos, who she married on June 10, 1954, recently celebrated 71 years of marriage. She was mom to Wayne (deceased May 16, 1977), Fern (JR) Yoder and Marcie (Robert) Kuepfer.  We’ll love you forever, we’ll like you for always. Forever and ever the best mom you’ll be. Our mom was special -when she walked in a room her smile brightened our world and she shared that with others wherever she went-freely giving smiles, kind words, encouragement, hugs and a pat on the hand or back. She was loved by all who knew her. Dorothy was born in Millbank, ON to Chris J. and Mary Gerber on November 9, 1934. She was the very special, and only, sister to Mahlon and Dan. She was not only a wife, homemaker and mom, throughout her lifetime she was the owner of a lunch counter, foster parent, sales clerk, volunteer, thrifter and wheeler-dealer. She was known to be able to knit or crochet a wonderful gift from a few strings of yarn, to wear the classiest outfits which she purchased for a dime, and to get the lowest price possible on a piece of furniture. Her line, “Is that the best you can do” seemingly was enough to produce a better price from most salesmen. Her eye for colour came naturally and she used this talent to grow  beautiful flower beds as well as creating window displays at MCC Thrift Shop. Known as Gram (and best Christmas gift giver) to her grandchildren: Erica & Mike Pillow, Crystal Kuepfer, Vanessa & Eric Marvin, Brent & Sarah Kuepfer, Jesse & Katie Yoder, Jenna Kuepfer, Judson & Katie Yoder. Time spent with family was a special time for Dorothy. She liked to see her great grandchildren whether in person or via FaceTime. Being with family brightened her world. Dorothy will be missed and lovingly remembered by her remaining sister in laws and brother in laws. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, July 22, at Brenneman Funeral Home, 141 John St, Atwood, ON from 2-4pm and 6-8pm. Donations can be made to World Vision To honour Dorothy’s expressed wishes there will be a private committal service. A memorial service will be held for immediate family and will be by invitation.
