Dorothy was born August 12, 1927 in Listowel to the late Bill and Gladys Johnson and spent her growing years on the family farm on the 2nd of Elma.
After high school, Dorothy worked for Goudy’s in Kitchener and attended dances at the Britton Hall. This is where she met the love of her life Jim Barton. It was not long before the neighbours saw the Kitchener bus stopping at the Barton Farm. Dorothy and Jim were married October 17, 1949 and set up farming Lot 32 Concession 9 of Elma Township (Donegal). Dorothy was active with the Donegal UCW, Donegal Institute, and later years the Atwood Lioness. Dorothy always had a pie or a cookie and enjoyed visits from family and friends. In recent years, Dorothy resided at Livingston Manor where she flourished with the excellent care, friendship, and love that was provided to her.
As per Dorothy’s wishes, cremation has taken place. Funeral service for Dorothy will be held at the Atwood Presbyterian Church on June 3, 2026 at 11 AM. Dear Barton family, This dear lady is responsible for the religious education of many children, who attended Donegal United Church, many years ago.She also taught us what it means to give to your community, and that makes her so memorable today.
As a Sunday school teacher, she organized the wonderful Christmas concerts, that many of us remember still today. At age 5, she had me get on stage all alone, and have me sing “ Here comes Susie Snowflake”.I can still see her coaching me from the sidelines.
Her presence was always impressive,in so many ways.So many of us “ Donegal” seniors will have such good memories of “ Mrs Barton.” That’s quite a legacy!
I am so sorry for your loss, Sincerely Nancy Rozend…
