October 13, 1930 to January 30, 2020
Howard Neil Darroch passed away January 30, 2020 in his 90th year surrounded by the peace that accompanies those who lived their lives wrapped in the love of their family and community. Howard was born October 13, 1930 and was raised by his parents Robert and Verna (McKnight) Darroch in a small home beside the railway yard in Palmerston with his brothers Glen (2018), Gerald and sister Audrey (2019). His family were proud railroad workers and he continued this tradition for a time before leaving the railroad to settle with his beloved wife Myrta Buchanan (1993) in Atwood, Ontario. Together they raised Robert (2017), Dianne (Paul), and Michael (Theresa). After Myrt’s passing in 1993, Howard was fortunate to marry Barbara (2018) and enjoy the companionship of a loving second partner in life. Howard was a hard worker, good provider for his family and source of lots of fun. He was a talented woodworker and these skills were evident in his strongly built house and cottage and in the many pieces of folk art that he created for his family. In his later years, he enjoyed sharing his gifts with his grandchildren Chad, Christopher and Matthew Lichti, Alex (2018), Melissa and Scott Darroch and great grandchildren Bennett, Cora and Colton Lichti. Howard was known for his zany slapstick humour and terrible jokes. Howard will be deeply missed by his family and friends. The world is a better place because he was here to remind us of the value of kindness, quiet strength, and a good laugh at our own expense. Relatives and friends are invited to share their memories at the Brenneman Funeral Home, 141 John Street, Atwood (519-356-2382), on Sunday February 2 from 2-6 p.m. where the service to celebrate his life will be held on Monday February 3, 2020 at 2:00 p.m. with visitation from 1:00 - 1:45 p.m. Spring interment in Donegal Cemetery.
