Marie Leis

January 1, 1921 to October 16, 2017

died at Nithview Community on Monday October 16, 2017 of age related illness. Born in Wellesley Township to Joseph R. and Mary (Nafziger) Erb. She was a life partner in dairy farming with her late husband Gordon (1982) in Perth County where they raised their family, Glennis (Mark Yantzi), James (Rosella Gerber), Murray (Marilyn Roes), Merlin (Angela Kindler), Paul (Charlene Martin) and Gloria (Dale Freeman). She will be missed by grandchildren Michael Yantzi (Marsha Taylor), James Yantzi, Rebecca Minor (Patrick), Shannon Leis, Maria Leis, David Leis, Scott Leis (Nicole) Victoria (Alex) Leis, Erin Freeman, Alexander Freeman (Racheal), Nickolas Freeman (Kristen) and great grandchildren Laine, Lexi, Liam, Gracelyn, Noa and Amos. Also surviving are brother-in-law and sister-in-law Omer and Erma Leis and many nieces and nephews. She was the last surviving member of her family being predeceased by her sister Frieda (John G. Erb), and brothers Ervin (Erma, Mary Gingerich) and Joe (Mabel). Also predeceased by in-laws Leroy and Vera Leis and Marion Bender Leis. Marie had an amazing capacity to remember names and faces of those she met throughout her lifetime even in these later years with dementia. She enjoyed gardening, cooking, quilting and for some years worked as a Red Cross Homemaker. A special thanks to the staff at Nithview Community for their care and compassion shown to our mother in these later years. Marie was a lifelong member of Maple View Mennonite Church in Wellesley Township where a private family burial will take place in the adjoining cemetery. Memorial visitation will be held at Maple View Mennonite Church, 5074 Deborah Glaister Line on Saturday October 28 from 2 to 5 p.m. where the memorial service will be held on Sunday October 29, 2017 at 2:30 p.m. with Pastor Brent Kipfer officiating.
