June 9, 1935 - September 10, 2021
Lloyd Turney – Sadly on Friday September 10, 2021, Lloyd Turney passed away peacefully at Caressant Care Nursing Home at the age of 86. Lloyd was born at home in Damascus on June 9, 1935 and resided with his parents until he met, fell in love and married Donna Crowe in 1957. Lloyd will be remembered for so many things. A few that should make you smile and nod your head and think “oh ya, I remember that about Lloyd” are his love and devotion for Donna and his children, extended family and neighbours. He considered everyone he met a friend. He was an active member of Calvary United Church, having held several committee and board positions. For the last 20 years, after “shushing” us to listen to In Memoriam on CKNX, he would go to the Legion for an afternoon of Lost Heir. Lloyd enjoyed playing cards, travelling/camping and fixing whatever needed “fixin”. He worked at Moore’s Produce and Horizon Poultry in St. Mary’s until his retirement at 65 when he took up driving for Hudson’s and volunteering with Meals on Wheels. For the last 8 or 9 years, Lloyd would stop shaving at Christmas and not shave again until spring – you either loved or hated that look. Lloyd has lived a full and bountiful life and was surely blessed indeed.
Beloved husband for 50 years of the late Donna (Crowe) who predeceased him in 2008. Loving father of Ken (Judy), Keith (Jill), Greg (Darlene), Gayle Ludington (David), Tricia MacMillan (Dwight). Special grandpa of Jennifer (Rob), Melissa (Dave), Laura (Druce), Becky (Kyle), Caitlin (Luke), Jessica (Mike), Nicole (Mike), Brooke (Jamie), Alexandra (Shane), Ashley, Mary Pat (Nick), Alicia (Cody), Jamie (Sadie), Dylan (Riley), Dayton and 18 great-grandchildren. Fondly remembered by brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Cecil Cowan, Dianna Turney, Wanda Bridge, Anne and Darryl Abbott, Velma and Ron Hamilton, Francis and David Long as well as many nieces, nephews and dear friend Joan McDonald.
He was the youngest of 9 children born to Archie & Florence (Ridsdale) Turney, and was the last surviving member of that generation. Lloyd has finally been called home to join his family, brothers Emerson (in infancy), Howard, Garnet, Ralph, sisters Ollie Moore, Franny Johnston, Gladys Gopsil and Freeda Cowan, sister-in-law Karen Crowe, brothers-in-law Sonny Crowe and Roy Bridge.
Relatives and friends are invited to share their memories at the Elma Memorial Community Centre, Atwood, on Monday September 13 from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. where the funeral service to celebrate Lloyd’s life will be held on Tuesday September 14, 2021 at 1:00 p.m. with Pastor Brian Hymer’s officiating. Interment in Elma Centre Cemetery, Atwood. Appointments are not required. Masks are mandatory and social distancing must be respected.
As expressions of sympathy, memorial donations to the Royal Canadian Legion Br. 259 Listowel, Calvary United Church or the Parkinson’s Society would be appreciated by the family
