Of Monkton passed away peacefully at Listowel Memorial Hospital on

February 27, 2026 at the age of 87.

Beloved husband of Ruth Schmidt (nee Elg) whom he was married to for 67 years.

Loving father of Julie Schmidt (Steve Maddock), Jarvin (MJ) Schmidt and

Shawn Schmidt (Dorine Cherry). He will be missed by his 3 grandchildren

Derek (Andrea) Ward, April (Derek) Bannon, Devon (Sarah) Ward and great

grandchildren Russell, Carter, Brayden, Evelyn, Lauren, Bentley and Natalie.

Survived by his siblings June (Bill) Westman, Mryna (the late Earl) Schmidt,

Carol Lines (Bob Ernest), Leonard (Joyce) Schmidt, Judy (Gary) Schweitzer, brothers in law and sister in laws Marg (the late Bill) Stahlke, Robert (Marg) Elg,

Verna Morris, Roy Elg, Ralph (Eleanor) Elg, George (Barb) Elg and Bruce (Joanne) Elg . Predeceased by his parents Harry and Clara Schmidt and brother in law Robert Lines and sister in law Dorothy Elg and in infancy.

Lawrence was born in Hamstead Ontario and raised in Milverton. He was

known in Monkton and area as a long time business owner. He started

Schmidt Garage and Welding as a licenced mechanic in August of 1962 until

August of 2012. Lawrence was a member of the Redeemer Lutheran Church in

Monkton and was a volunteer Firefighter for 35 years. He enjoyed hunting and

will be remembered for his skill and knowledge he put into every project he

was apart of. Cremation has taken place.

A celebration of life will take place on Saturday March 14th, 2026, from 1 PM- 4

PM at the Elma Logan Recreation Centre. Memorial donations may be made

to the Alzheimer’s Society or Redeemer Lutheran Church Monkton. Online

condolences may be left at www.brennemanfuneralhome.ca. Arrangements
