Jack passed away peacefully at Listowel Memorial Hospital on Friday March 20, 2009. He resided at RR#1 Atwood and was born 81 years ago in Elma Township, a son of the late John and Alice (Coghlin) Ballantyne. Jack was a member of Atwood Presbyterian Church where he served on Session and the Board of Managers. He was on the Elma Centre Cemetery Board for over 30 years serving most of those as chairman. Jack also served on the Sire selection committee for the Ayrshire Breeders of Canada. His passion for horses was evident by breeding, raising and racing them for most of his life. Jack was the beloved husband of Jean (Bradshaw) Ballantyne whom he married in 1952; the loving father of John of Listowel, Diane and Doug Buchanan of Fergus; special grandpa of Stacy, Matthew, Ashley, Jeremy and Heather and great-grandpa of Natasha, Griffin and Austin. He will be fondly remembered by his sisters Agnes Harrow and Jean Ballantyne both of Listowel, sister-in-law Ethel McMaster of Listowel, brother-in-law Roy Bradshaw of Monkton, Laura, Tiffany, Dean and many nieces and nephews. Jack was predeceased by his twin brother and brother Gordon, both in infancy, sister Annie Gould and her husband Harry, brother Robert and his wife Ann, brother-in-law Bill Harrow, son-in-law John Gray and great-grandson Alexander Gray. Jack's family invites relatives and friends to share their memories at the Brenneman Funeral Home 141 John Street, Atwood, on Friday March 27, 2009 from 6-9 p.m. The memorial service to celebrate Jack's life will be held at Atwood Presbyterian Church on Saturday March 28, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Cathrine Campbell and Rev. John Hogerwaard officiating. Spring interment will be in Elma Centre Cemetery, Atwood.
