John Gerber

July 5, 1940 - April 6, 2021


John Gerber of Milverton, passed away peacefully in Stratford General Hospital with family by his side on April 6, 2021 at the age of 80. John was born in Ellice Township, a loving son of the late John and Anna (Yoder) Gerber.

Beloved husband of Elizabeth (Albrecht) with whom he shared 15 years of marriage. He was the loving father of Richard and his wife Heather, Roger and his wife Judy, Bonnie and her husband David Ropp and Donna and her husband Dale Schultz. Step-father of Marlene and Maury Patton and Sharon and Owen Price. Special Grandpa of Jordan Gerber (fiancé Caitlyn), Jamie Gerber (Hannah), Adam Ropp (Hayley), Scott and Callie Ropp, Ryan Ropp (Anna), Rebecca Ropp (fiancé Justin), Danielle and Sam Zehr, Renee and Braden Gerber, Austin Schultz, Noah Patton, Emma Patton, Kalyn Price and Nolan Price. Cherished Great-Grandpa of Emmanuel and Paisley.

Many memories were made on Grandpa’s farm driving the toys that he shared and on vacations at Chesley Lake. John was a member of Poole Mennonite Church where he served as Elder, Sunday School Superintendent, Youth Sponsor and in many other capacities. He owned and operated John Gerber Construction, serving the community and beyond for over 55 years. His son Roger worked alongside him for 33 years. John loved spending time with his tractor club friends driving his Farmall tractor. He enjoyed opening his door to help many people in need and they were always welcomed.

John was predeceased by his first wife Pauline (Steckly) in 2001 with whom he enjoyed 39 years of marriage.

He was the brother and brother-in-law of the late Frieda and David Jutzi, Mary and Delmar Bender, Clara and the late Lester Leis, Irene and the late Hans Troester, Bud and Ruth Gerber, Judy and John Mohr, the late William and Merrill Steckley, Beatrice and the late Roy Steckley, and Patricia and Melvin Jantzi.

A family visitation took place on Friday April 9, 2021 at Poole Mennonite Church where a private family funeral service to celebrate John’s life was held on Saturday April 10, 2021 at 10:30 a.m. with Pastor Fred Redekop officiating. Interment in Poole Mennonite Cemetery.

As expressions of sympathy, memorial donations to Poole Mennonite Church or Stratford General Hospital Foundation – ICU Department would be appreciated by the family.
