Hilda Holmes

December 11, 1916 to August 3, 2014

Hilda Holmes formerly of Listowel, passed away peacefully at Brucelea Haven, Walkerton on Sunday August 3, 2014 at the age of 97. Hilda was a member of Christ Anglican Church, Listowel. She was a member of the Dorcas Group of Christ Anglican Church until they disbanded in 2005 and a former member of North Star Circle. Hilda was an avid gardener, card player and euchre champion. She received many first place ribbons at local fairs for her quilts. Hilda enjoyed all the time spent with her family. Beloved wife of the late Cecil Holmes who predeceased her in 1986. Loving mother of Marjorie Palmer of Richmond Hill and Reta Cunningham of Walkerton. Special grandma of Gary and Laura Young, Sherry and Jeff Long, Susan and David Lahonen, Tambra Breckell and Tracy Hayward; great grandma of Holly Young, Davalena and Logan Lahonen, Cole, Liam and MacKenzie Breckell, Mitchell Hayward (Emily), Justin and Hannah Hayward and great-great grandma of Kingston Hayward. Dear sister of Florence Ronnenberg of Wiarton. Fondly remembered by Ron Young, Jim Logue, Steve Hayward and many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her parents John and Roxy (Rowland) Quipp, her daughter Fairlene Logue, son-in-law Harold Cunningham, sisters Olive and husband Austin Rennie, Eunice and husband Fenton Wakeford, brothers Orval, Albert and Frank Quipp and brother-in-law Clarence (Bud) Ronnenberg. Relatives and friends are invited to share their memories at the Brenneman Funeral Home, 141 John Street, Atwood (519-356-2382), on Wednesday August 6 from 12:30 to 2:15 p.m. followed by the funeral service to celebrate Hilda's life at 2:30 p.m. with Rev. Laura Lightfoot officiating. Interment in Elma Centre Cemetery, Atwood.
