Dorothy S Lichty, age 90, went home to be with Jesus on Saturday, July 19, 2025.
Dorothy, along with her husband and life-long companion Amos, who she married on June 10, 1954, recently celebrated 71 years of marriage.
She was mom to Wayne (deceased May 16, 1977), Fern (JR) Yoder and Marcie (Robert) Kuepfer. We’ll love you forever, we’ll like you for always. Forever and ever the best mom you’ll be.
Our mom was special -when she walked in a room her smile brightened our world and she shared that with others wherever she went-freely giving smiles, kind words, encouragement, hugs and a pat on the hand or back. She was loved by all who knew her.
Dorothy was born in Millbank, ON to Chris J. and Mary Gerber on November 9, 1934. She was the very special, and only, sister to Mahlon and Dan.
She was not only a wife, homemaker and mom, throughout her lifetime she was the owner of a lunch counter, foster parent, sales clerk, volunteer, thrifter and wheeler-dealer. She was known to be able to knit or crochet a wonderful gift from a few strings of yarn, to wear the classiest outfits which she purchased for a dime, and to get the lowest price possible on a piece of furniture. Her line, “Is that the best you can do” seemingly was enough to produce a better price from most salesmen. Her eye for colour came naturally and she used this talent to grow beautiful flower beds as well as creating window displays at MCC Thrift Shop.
Known as Gram (and best Christmas gift giver) to her grandchildren:
Erica & Mike Pillow, Crystal Kuepfer, Vanessa & Eric Marvin, Brent & Sarah Kuepfer, Jesse & Katie Yoder, Jenna Kuepfer, Judson & Katie Yoder.
Time spent with family was a special time for Dorothy. She liked to see her great grandchildren whether in person or via FaceTime. Being with family brightened her world.
Dorothy will be missed and lovingly remembered by her remaining sister in laws and brother in laws.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, July 22, at Brenneman Funeral Home, 141 John St, Atwood, ON from 2-4pm and 6-8pm. Donations can be made to World Vision
To honour Dorothy’s expressed wishes there will be a private committal service. A memorial service will be held for immediate family and will be by invitation.
