Bernice Cockwell, of Listowel, formerly of Atwood, passed away peacefully at home on January 28, 2026. She was the beloved wife of the late Neil Cockwell, with whom she shared nearly 66 years of devoted marriage and partnership.

Bernice was a loving mother to Brian (Debra) Cockwell, Bruce (Janet) Cockwell, and Donna (Rob) Jeske, and a proud and cherished grandmother to Nigel (Jessica), Jillian (Aaron), Alyssa (Evan), Kirstie (Greg), Taylor (Jordan), and Josh (Jenna). She was also a deeply adored great-grandmother to Harper and Landry. Her family was the center of her world, and her love for them was constant, steady, and unconditional.

She is fondly remembered by her sister Shirley (the late Adam) Kornacker; brothers-in-law Leon (the late Gladys) Carter and Murray Cockwell; sister-in-law Bette Cockwell; her extended family; and many dear friends. Bernice was predeceased by her parents, Gordon and Nellie Bell, and by her husband Neil, whose passing in 2023 left a profound absence in her life.

Bernice was a proud member of the Red Hats Society and served as a director of the Atwood District Lioness Club, where she generously gave her time and heart to the community. Bernice loved her years at Harvey Krotz Ford and the bonds of friendship formed there. Known for her kindness, warmth, and gentle spirit, she had a natural way of making others feel welcome and at ease. Her home was a place of comfort, and her presence brought calm and reassurance. In her final years at Perth Meadows, she found renewed happiness and companionship, reuniting with old friends, welcoming new ones, and embracing the caring, close-knit community that meant so much to her. Bernice will be remembered for her deep love of family, her strength, her compassion, and the quiet grace with which she lived her life. Though her passing leaves a profound void, her legacy endures through the many lives she touched and the family she cherished so dearly.

A private family service will be held and public Celebration of Life will be held on May 2, 2026 at Perth Meadows from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Memorial donations may be left to Listowel Memorial Hospital or the Atwood Lions Club.
