    December 27, 1954 to August 19, 2022 Passed away peacefully at Rotary Hospice Stratford on Friday August 19, 2022 at the age of 67. Dan was the son of the late Emanuel and Laura Carter (Kuepfer). Dan will be missed by his beloved wife Kathleen Carter (Zehr). Loving father of Jason (Bonnie) Carter, Dennis (Michele) Carter and Teresa (Nathan) Morwood. Cherished grandfather of Ben, Emily, Grayson, Calla, Oliver and Morgan. Brother of John Carter, David (Delphine) Carter, Ruth Ann Carter and the late James Carter. Brother-in-law to Joanne (Donald) Matthews, Sandra (the late Garry) Zehr, Jim (Janet) Zehr, Doug (Miriam) Zehr, Fred (Cheryl) Zehr. Fondly remembered by many nieces and nephews. Dan was a dairy farmer for 30 years. He enjoyed snowmobiling, puttering around the shop fixing a multitude of things and his yearly maple syrup production on the farm. Dan was a loyal employee and friend to the Brenneman Funeral Home over the last 15 years. Visitation will be held on Sunday August 21, 2022, from 2-4 PM and 6-9 PM at Listowel Mennonite Church, 465 Maitland Ave S, Listowel.     June 7, 1961 to August 15, 2022 Gerald (Gerry) Mitchell Hiltz passed away peacefully on Monday August 15, 2022 at Listowel Memorial Hospital at the age of 61 after a brief battle with cancer Gerry is survived & missed by his brothers, Randy (Cheryl) Hiltz of Listowel, Danny (Dianne) Hiltz of Gorrie, David (Joan) Hiltz of Shining Tree, Tim Hiltz of Atwood, ON Fondly remembered by sister-in-law Bev Hiltz of Listowel He was the son of the late Brian & Marie (Duncan) Hiltz. Gerry was an avid hunter and fisherman and loved hanging out with his niece and nephews showing them how to hunt and fish or just spending quality time with them.     August 25, 1925 to August 12, 2022 Betty Maedel – of Mitchell passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family at Ritz Lutheran Villa on August 12, 2022 at the age of 96. She was the daughter of the late Edwin and Frieda Litt. Predeceased by the love of her life, Carl Maedel who passed in 1997. Loving mother of Paul (Fern) Maedel, Liz (Tom) Goodyer, Colleen (Vince) Priestap and the late Alan Maedel. Special grandmother to Darlene (Mark), Becky (Steve), and Laura, Chris (Liz), Jeff (Angela), and Lindsay (Andy), Jenn (Dean), Mike (Gerdina), and Christine (Luke), Steph (Ryan), Kalynn, and Jonny. Betty was blessed with 20 Great Grandchildren, and 4 great-great-grandchildren. Betty will be fondly remembered by her dear sisters Evelyn, Leone and Donna (Walter) and many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by siblings Jean (Barry) Wenger, Phil Armstrong, Alvin (Lois) Litt, Loreen (Bill) Beckett, Harold (Hilda) Litt, Harold Sillers, Carol Ann (Hank) Goller, Sharen (Ernie) Marshall and sisters-in-law Marie Golightly and Illa Maedel. Betty was known to many as a social butterfly who was always up for a good party, a rousing game of bid euchre and a day at the slots. Nothing was as precious to her as spending time with her family especially during her holidays at Jack Lake. Betty was a former member of the Mitchell Legion Ladies Auxillary Br. 128 and Grace Lutheran Church. She was a resident of Ritz Lutheran Villa where she was famous for her contagious smile. Relatives and friends are invited to share their memories at the Monkton Community Centre on August 16 from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. The funeral service to celebrate Betty’s life will be held at Monkton Community Centre on August 17, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Gerald Luck officiating.     September 8, 1987 to August 10, 2022 Heidi Schlumpf, wife and mother, departed her loving family on August 10, 2022 at Listowel Memorial Hospital. Heidi lived and thrived during her 16 month stage IV Triple Negative Breast Cancer journey. Keeping faith over fear, Heidi passed away peacefully at the age of 34, surrounded by her devoted family. Heidi was the loving mother of Priska, Daisy, Alice & Konrad Schlumpf. Heidi and her adoring husband Remo Schlumpf recently celebrated 8 years of Marriage on August 9th. Heidi was the cherished daughter of Leona, and the late Gorden VanDyke. Little sister to Tyler VanDyke (Allison Williams). Daughter-in-law to Alfred and Marianne Schlumpf. Sister-in-law to Debora (Jeremy) Terpstra, Julia Schlumpf (John Sullivan), David (Vanessa) Schlumpf. Heidi will be remembered fondly by her many friends, dear aunts and uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. Heidi left her mark on this world leaving rays of sunshine wherever she went. She will be remembered for embracing motherhood, her thoughtfulness for others and her eloquent way with words as she navigated life with cancer. Her family was always at the forefront of everything she did, and she dedicated her life to nurturing them. Heidi’s kind and generous spirit propelled her into significant fundraising efforts in support of Triple Negative Breast Cancer Research. Her legacy of kindness lives on through those who had the privilege of loving her. Heidi was part of a wonderful and caring community, which her family continues to be blessed by today. They would like to extend their gratitude. The outreach and support they have received has been remarkable.     April 26, 1931 to July 20, 2022 of Listowel, formerly of Atwood passed away peacefully at Caressant Care Retirement Home on Wednesday July 20, 2022 in his 92nd year. Larry was a former member of the Atwood Lions Club and enjoyed singing and playing music. He loved having a roast beef dinner the Atwood Cafe with friends and family. Larry will be reunited with his late wife Ardis Smith (2021) whom he celebrated 68 years of marriage with on January 10 2021. Loving father of Paul (Aline) Smith, Carla (Brad) Matheson, Leanne (Rob) Hamilton. Special grandpa of Stacey Bailey (Patrick), Shawn Smith (Alicia), Kaley Smith (Al), Cole Smith (Taylor), Christina Anderson (Kristopher), Aaron McDonald (Lacey), Jessica McDonald, Christa Vanderlinden (Nigel), Jenny Beirnes (Mike), Jillian Matheson (Justin), Justin Hamilton (Ashlee) and Josie Hamilton (Dave). Cherished great grandfather of Karson, Kai, Blake, Emerson, Ayda, Kohen, Mason, Emily, Ryan, Aubrey, Rowan, Chloe, Brook, Emrie, Rhyland, Leighton, Wyatt, Willow, Keegan, Paiton, Olivia, Sully and Maria. Fondly remembered by his sister Joyce Jacobs and many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his siblings Marie Doherty and Kay Levy.     July 3, 1934 to June 3, 2022 Derek Nind passed away peacefully at Listowel Memorial Hospital On June 3, 2022 at the age of 87 surrounded by love. Beloved husband and high school sweetheart of Shirley (Cleland) Nind whom he was with for 64 years. Loving father and granddad of Jackie Campbell (Al deceased 2012) and their children Drew (Kirsten), Sydney and Natalie; Tom (Carrie-Ann) Nind and their children Jesse, Meadow, Sawyer and Piper; Judi (Rick) Stahl and their children Oliver (Kailyn), Darby and Cooper. Cherished GG to Hanna, Brooks and Kennedy. Fondly remembered by his half-sister, Janny Boomsma, half-brother Mike Nind, sister-in-law Mary Colquhoun-Nind and nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his father Stanley Nind and mother Margery (Ratcliffe) Nind and brothers Forbes and Paul. “Dake” had strong life-long involvement in the communities of Monkton, Atwood and Listowel. He was particularly pleased with being instrumental in the creation of the North Perth Minor Soccer Association and the Lions Club of Atwood as well as his involvement with the service work of the Listowel Kinsmen and K40. He also served on the Boards of the Listowel Police Services and Listowel Maitland Terrace. He was an active member of Knox Presbyterian Church in Listowel. Derek enjoyed playing hockey and baseball, coaching many teams over the years including the Listowel District Secondary School soccer program for 28 years as well as the L.D.S.S. girls field hockey program. Derek enjoyed every minute of a teaching career that spanned 38 years starting in Monkton and then continuing at Atwood Public School, Listowel Central Public School and Listowel District Secondary School until his retirement in 1992. His favourite pleasures were garnered from his family life. In keeping with Derek's wishes, cremation will take place. Visitation will be held at the Elma Memorial Community Centre, Atwood on Wednesday June 8, 2022 from 2-5 p.m and 6-8 p.m. A memorial service to celebrate Derek's life will be held at Knox Presbyterian Church, Listowel on Thursday June 9, 2022 at 11 a.m. with Rev. Pat was the proud owner of Pat Boyd Backhoeing for over 30 years. For the past 14 years, he enjoyed raising beef cattle on the farm near Hepworth. Pat liked to play cards, tinker in his shop and loved spending time with his family especially his grandchildren. Beloved wife of Marie (Ronnenberg) Boyd whom he married in 1968. Eleanor was a member of Atwood Presbyterian Church. She was a former member of a Ladies Quartet and a rural mail carrier for Canada Post for over 50 years. Eleanor cherished the time spent with family and friends at the cottage in Goderich. Beloved wife of the late Ross Coulter who predeceased her in 2003.
