    February 21, 1931 - July 25, 2023 Passed away peacefully at Listowel Memorial Hospital on Tuesday July 25, 2023, at the age of 92. Beloved wife of the late Alex Buchanan (1980). Loving mother of her three daughters, Pauline (the late Earl) Steffler, Cheryl (Alan) Cleland and Lee-Ann (the late Brian) Tucker. Cherished grandmother of Chad Cleland, Shawn Cleland, Jason Cleland, Ashley Steffler- McIntyre, Jordan Tucker, Brody Tucker and her 10 great grandchildren. Predeceased by her parents David & Mattie Dewar, siblings Kay (Alvin) Shiell, Tom (Lorraine) Dewar, Brothers and sisters-in-law Edna Laurie, Olive Cummings, Nina Cummings, Jimmy (Eva) Buchanan, Myrta Darroch, Gladys Scott, and Barry Wagner. Survived by her 3 sisters Shirley (the late Glen) Buchanan, Marj (Paul) Krauter, Dorie (the late Ron Hartman) Wagner, brother-in-law Andy (the late Delores) Buchanan (Marion Behrnes). She will be missed by many nieces and nephews. Jessie was a member of Donegal United Church, Donegal UCW and the Donegal Women's Institute. Alex and Jessie owned and operated the service station in Donegal from the time they were married until his illness when they moved to Atwood. They both had a love for music and hosted many fiddle parties. Jessie was known for her love of baking and could plan a get together at a moment's notice. Despite her hearing impairment, Jessie was very social and loved to be around her friends and family. Friends and family are welcome for visitation at the Brenneman Funeral Home on Sunday July 30, 2023 from 4 PM - 8 PM.     October 2, 1945 - June 19, 2023 Passed away peacefully at his home on Lavallee Lake on June 19, 2023, at the age of 77. Loving father of Che Cleland of Innisfil and Devin Cleland (Kim) of Osoyoos BC. Cherished grandfather of Damien, Megan, Kali and Adele. Survived by his sister Lorraine Cleland Renaud. Predeceased by his parents David Alexander Cleland, Hanna Cleland, and brother Blaine Cleland. Barry loved his time up north at the cottage & spending time with family and friends. Barry was an avid fisherman and hunter, he loved scuba diving, stock car racing and skiing, he was a man of many talents. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held at Brenneman Funeral Home, 141 John St. Atwood on July 15, 2023 at 1:00 pm. Interment at Elma Centre Cemetery.   • Neil Wilfred Cockwell

    age 87, of Listowel, formerly of Atwood, passed peacefully with family by his side Saturday March 18, 2023 at Listowel Memorial Hospital. For nearly 66 years was the beloved husband of Bernice (Bell). Dear father of Brian (Debra) Cockwell, Bruce (Janet) Cockwell, and Donna (Rob) Jeske. Sadly missed by his grandchildren Nigel (Jessica), Jillian (Aaron), Alyssa (Evan), Kirstie (Greg), Taylor (Jordan), Josh (Jenna) and his great granddaughters Harper and Landry. Fondly remembered by brother Murray, and in-laws Leon, Bette, and Shirley. Predeceased by his parents Wilfred & Olive Cockwell, and in-laws Nellie and Gordon Bell. Predeceased by siblings Ruth, Ross, Percy, Mac, and Vivian. Neil, born and raised in Donegal, began his career at the Bank of Nova Scotia. After he and Bernice married, he moved to Ideal Supply where he opened the Kincardine branch. Neil’s insurance career began in 1974 and led him to start Cockwell Insurance Brokers in Atwood, operating at the original location for 40 years. Neil, deeply committed to his community of Atwood, was a lifetime member of the Atwood Lions Club, original member of the Atwood Fire Department, served on the Donegal Cemetery Board, Chamber of Commerce, and Pine River Boat Club. Neil also operated as a full time spare at the Atwood Men’s Club always subbing in when necessary. Neil could be found tinkering in his shop, woodworking, repairing/restoring engines, or fishing, relaxing and socializing at his Lake Huron cottage. Neil’s greatest joy was his family, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren along with assorted pets. A private family service will be held. A public celebration of life will take place on Saturday June 3, 2023, 1:30-3:30 at the Atwood Community Centre .   • Mark H. Rock

    August 13, 1951 to April 22, 2017 of Atwood, went to be with his Lord and Saviour on Saturday April 22, 2017 at the age of 65. Mark was an organ donor who was able to give the gift of life to others. He was a faithful member of First Baptist Church, Listowel. Mark enjoyed talking to anyone and sharing his faith with them and was always seen wearing a cowboy hat. He worked hard, participated in mission projects in Bolivia and also enjoyed travelling with Kathy especially to Tennessee. Cherished and dearly loved husband of Kathy (McCallum) Rock whom he married in 1975. Loving father of Michelle Vanlochem (Marcel), Amanda Rock, Naomi Rock and April Rock. Treasured grandpa of Eliana, Tobias, Myla and Zemirah. Brother and brother-in-law of Joel (Marilyn), Marg Rock and Barbara Rock. Fondly remembered by his mother-in-law Margaret McCallum, brother-in-law Jim McCallum, Rebecca Rock, nieces, nephews and cousins. Loving father of Gerry (Wilma) Sluys of Chepstow, Jacqueline (Ron) Knop of Bluevale, Wen (Alison Clark) Sluys of Clinton, Frank (Jelleke) Sluys of Listowel, Mark Sluys of Listowel and Ed (Jennifer) Sluys of Richmond Hill. Cherished grandfather of 20 and 11 great grandchildren. Survived by 1 brother in the Netherlands, 1 sister in the Netherlands and 1 sister in Australia. Predeceased by his 4 brothers, grandson Owen Sluys and grandson-in-law Adam Sinclair. Wayne, along with Corrie started farming in the Netherlands in 1965 and emigrated to Canada in 1989 and continued to farm in Canada until 2011. Wayne continued to be involved in the farm.   • Elvey Rock

    of RR3 Monkton, passed away at his home at the age of 84. He was born on March 6th, 1939 to the late Christian and Gladys (French) Rock in Logan Township. He married the love of his life, Edythe (Rinn) in 1960 and had two daughters, Joanne Foster (Dave) and Jennifer Rock. Elvey enjoyed many years farming in Elma Township and working off the farm doing carpentry, welding and working at the Maple Leaf Chicken Hatchery at Monkton and New Hamburg. He enjoyed all the custom combining that he did for other local farmers. He loved being in the sky flying airplanes or motorbiking any chance that he could. Elvey and Edythe enjoyed many motorhome adventures with the Ausable Nomads Club of Exeter during their retirement years. Elvey also loved caring for and cherished the companionship of all of his beloved cats and dogs over the years. Grandpa of Laurie Faulhafer (Kyle), Tim Misener, Michelle Olad (Mehdi), John Foster, and great-grandpa of Cohen, Violet and Mileena. Fondly remembered by his sisters Bernice Hutchison, Lila Ruth Bullock (Bob Fries), brother-in-law John Rinn (Theresa), and sister-in-law Janet Rock and many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his brother Bruce Rock, brother in-law Don Hutchinson, and his sister in-law Marjorie Rock and husband Keith Rock. Cremation has occurred as per his wishes and Interment will be in North Logan Cemetery, Monkton. As per his wishes, a service will not take place. He wanted to be remembered in life not death. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation would be appreciated by the family. May his precious soul rest in peace until we all meet again.

Beloved wife of the late Harvey Smith (2021), whom she was married to for 72 years. Loving mother of Ron (Susan) Smith, Brenda (Ken) Bast, Donna (Steve) Wells, Lorrie (Keith) Traves. Cherished grandmother of Sherry (Sean), Ryan (Tracy), Angie (Cam), Mike (Colene), Matt (Morgan), Chancey, Adam (Lisa) and Aleisha (Michael). Special great grandma of Bryn, Talia, Hannah, Holden, Haelyn, Winston, Edwin, Delilah, Meyer, Paige, Addison, Olivia, Ava, Maxwell, Jack and Molly. Survived by her sister Bonnie Gmelin. Predeceased by her parents Sam and Mary Pake, sister Helen Barker and brother Allan Pake. Fondly remembered by the Smith family and many nieces and nephews. Marion will be remembered for her great ability to do beautiful knitting, crochet, and other sewing projects. She was also a great cook and baker. Nothing pleased her more than creating a full course meal for her family and friends and ending the night with a game of cards. She also loved to travel in their camper van and camp with family and friends. She also loved fishing and snowmobiling. Cherished memories were made with her family and friends at their cottage in Point Clark which they owned for over 50 years. Marion and Harvey had a large, wonderful circle of friends known as the crew. Friends and family will be gathering at Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Ethel on Saturday May 13, 2023 at 11 AM for a Celebration of Life Service. After the service, a luncheon will be served at 12:30 at the Brussels Legion to shed a few tears and share memories, laughs and stories of a wonderful person who will be missed dearly.     August 12, 1950 -March 25, 2023 Jim Anticknap of Atwood, passed away suddenly at Listowel Memorial Hospital on March 25, 2023 at the age of 72. Beloved husband of Donna Anticknap. Loving father of Shawn (Caetie) Anticknap and Jennifer (Matthew) George. Cherished Papa to Olive, Taylen and Brooklyn. Survived by his siblings Ron Anticknap (Bev) and Marie McGuire, and his sister in law Karen Anticknap, and his brother and sister in law, Bruce and Pauline Wilken. Predeceased by his parents Norman and Dorothy Anticknap, his brother Bill and brother in law John McGuire. He will be missed by many nieces, nephews and a close network of lifelong friends and colleagues. Jim worked many years in the lumber business including Cashway (Rona) and Watson Home Hardware.
